MyCuisine App Design

MyCuisine is an app designed to help people learn how to cook a wide variety of dishes by providing detailed instructions and directions. It aims to create a platform where individuals from around the world can share their favourite recipes, making it accessible to anyone interested in learning to cook. The language used in the app is simple and direct, ensuring that users can easily understand and follow the instructions.

The target audience for MyCuisine is anyone who has a desire to learn how to cook, regardless of their cooking experience or background. The app is designed to accommodate beginners who are just starting their culinary journey and individuals who want to expand their cooking skills and repertoire.

THE PROBLEM

The increasing number of health problems being registered every day has prompted the need for a platform that promotes health and teaches people how to cook nutritious meals. Our mission is to address this problem by utilizing this platform as an educational tool to promote healthier lifestyles through cooking.

THE GOAL

Create an app that not only highlights the significance of good health but also educates people on how to prepare meals that contribute to their overall well-being.

MY ROLE

UX Designer, design a responsive app to teach people to cook healthier meals.

Responsibilities

Conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting research study plan, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.

UNDERSTANDING THE USER

During the user research process, I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to gain a deeper understanding of the users I was designing for and their needs. Based on the findings, it became evident that the majority of the users were working individuals who preferred fast food due to time constraints.

However, the user group also revealed that time was not the sole limiting factor influencing their food choices. They expressed a willingness to change their lifestyle if they could learn recipes quickly. This insight highlighted an opportunity to address their needs by providing efficient and accessible methods for learning recipes.

The Challenge

The challenge I faced was while designing the wireframes for all the screens and different versions. It was a time-consuming and challenging task, especially considering the tight deadline.

BREAKING DOWM THE PROCESS

To start I have conducted a competitive audit. An audit of a few competitor’s products provided to be able to observe their best features and what they lack so we can improve MyCuisine app.

Then I did a quick ideation exercise to come up with ideas for how to address gaps identified in the competitive audit. My focus was to make the app less cluttered.

After ideation and conducting studies. The setting option is an important feature. I have focused on the user need here.

To prepare usability testing, I have created a low-fidelity prototype that connect user flow of viewing the recipe and ingredients.

I also conducted usability study to find what can be improve with the app.

Based on the insights from the usability studies, I applied design changes like providing an option where the app can read the ingredients.

I have created a high fidelity prototype to show my design with the necessary changes made.

THE DESIGN PHASE

SITEMAP

The sitemap I have created before the wireframes and all. Along the way I have made changes about the pages.

LESSONS LEARNED

As Don Norman says “It's not enough that we build products that function, that are understandable and usable, we also need to build products that bring joy and excitement, pleasure and fun, and yes, beauty to people's lives.”

What I have learned, I am fascinated by how user feedback really affects your design. Sometimes you will have to change the whole design by just conducting usability study. We always need to put the user first. As a designer there is a lot to learn, to understand, to grasp, to create and so on. The learning process is never ending.

This project shows how research is crucial in order to create a good user experience.
